RFID HF/NFC Tags & Labels

HF RFID operates at 13.56 MHz and is also called NFC (Near Field Communication). Compared to other RFID frequencies, the NFC has the benefit of being readable with an NFC enabled smartphone. By date, this only applies to Android-based devices. Also, the iPhone has NFC reads, but this is not currently available to read the chip ID (may come in future updates of IOS).

Typically, HF chips have a reading range between 1-3 centimeters and 1 meter. This depends on both the chip's antenna and the reader itself. HF systems are moderately sensitive to environmental disturbances. The advantage is that you do not run the risk of reading unwanted ID, while reading multiple tags becomes more time-consuming. Often, it may also be problematic to get close enough to the RFID tag.
